Foundations of Engineering and Technology Midterm Study guide (#11-20)
11) Engineering Design Process:
- Define the Problem
- Brainstorm
- Explore Solutions
- Testing and Evaluation
- Generate a Solution
This poster explains the Engineering Design Process.
12) The difference between inventions and innovations
An invention is something created to make work or the accessibility of a resource easier but an innovation is when the way of doing something is changed.
vs.
13) How to calculate area
Here is a video on how to calculate area.
14) How to calculate volume
Here is a video on how to calculate area of a rectangular prism.
15) How to calculate labor costs
Here is a video on the three types of manufacturing costs including labor costs.
17) How to calculate wholesale prices
This video shows how to calculate wholesale prices if you know the retail price markup percentage.
18) Overhead costs
This video also includes how to calculate overhead costs.

Foundations of Engineering and Technology Midterm Study Guide (# 1-10)
1) An Engineering Technician is a specialist who is trained in the skills and techniques related to a specific branch of engineering, with relatively practical understanding of the general engineering concepts. Engineering technicians often assist engineers and technologists in projects, research and development. source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineering_technician

Five technologies involved in the production of this book are:
the printer used to print the words on to the paper
the paper
the glue used to bind the book
the stuff used to make the front cover shiny
the ink used for the words
2) Types of engineering
3) Reverse engineering is taking apart an object to see how it works in order to duplicate or enhance the object. The practice, taken from older industries, is now frequently used on computer hardware and software.
4) CTSOs are co-curricular organizations with leadership programs and competitive events which reflect current curriculum standards and competencies for the instructional programs they serve.
CTSO Webinar Video Quiz (incorrect questions)
5) One of the best things about CTSO's is that students develop skills through experience.
True (correct answer)
False

These are the Georgia CTSOs.
5) What do the letters "TSA" represent?
Answer: a) Technology Student Association
7) Questions and Answers from "future chapter 1 quiz"
1) One time, my robotics team and I were building a robot and when we were done the back of the robot touched the ground. We tried it out to see if it would work on the field and there was a lot of drag because the back was on the ground. If we had thought that through during the design process, we would not have run into that problem. We solved this problem when i figured out that it needed a back wheel.
2) One example of technology on human history is the stone age (2 million years ago) when people developed stone tools and ways to harness fire for heating cooking and protection. A few ages later was the middle ages (500 A.D.-1400 A.D.). In the middle ages, things like book printing, the water wheel, and mechanisms for printing money were created. The most recent age was the information age (mid 1900-present) which gave birth to computers, the internet, and tremendous advances in science and technology.
3) Scientists observe and investigate how the natural world functions, develop explanations for why things happen, then conduct experiments to see if their explanations are right.
4) Ten technologies that I have seen in the past hour are:
the tables in the lunchroom
promethean boardschairs
pencils
paper
computers
cell phone
security cameras
headphones
swivel chairs

5) Appropriate technology is a technology that can be manufacture, maintained, repaired, and improved with local community resources.
One technology that is appropriate for this school is a printer.
An inappropriate technology for the school is a gun.
6) A patent is a document the government issues granting an inventor the sole right to make, distribute, or sell a particular invention for a specified number of years. The patent system ensures that engineers get appropriate credit and compensation for their work and that is what motivates them.
7) Teamwork can lead to better solutions because when people come together to work to fox one problem, it makes the work faster and leaves more room for error. It is valuable to have people with different backgrounds on a team because they can pull a lot of knowledge from different aspects of their lives to help with the solution.
8) I think it is better to help the people establish their own microenterprise because if they depend on americans to help them they will never get off the ground themselves.
8) The purpose of the engineering design notebook is to avoid being disorganized. It is a place where engineers can record every detail of their projects along the way.
Here is a picture of a graph composition notebook, which is what engineers use.
10) Nanotechnology ("nanotech") is the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular, and supramolecular scale. source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanotechnology
